KAILUA COMMUNITY CHURCH’S INVOLVEMENT IN AFRICA

2004- PRESENT

"GOD HAS COMFORTED ME TO COMFORT OTHERS"
2 COR:1:3-4

Since 2004, the people of Kailua Community Church have been personally involved with ministries in Kenya and Uganda.  Pastor Perry Alexander had the vision to do something to help children who have been devastated by AIDS, war and poverty and who seem to have no hope.  Since then, we have been sending teams of people to teach, to build, to hug and to let these children know that they are not completely alone – we care.  Besides visiting them, we have more than 120 families who sponsor individual children, meaning that the money they give supports a child to have food, clothing, shelter, uniforms for school, and school fees.  Without that support, many of the children would not be able to go to school and would be street children or laborers.  For information on how you can sponsor a needy child, see below.

We have focused on three areas in Africa:

What Can You Do To Help?

Remember the children in your prayers!

* Pray for the nations of Uganda and Kenya to have wise leadership and stable governments.

* Pray for the children we work with to accept Christ as their Saviour and
to grow in their relationship to Christ

* Pray for the children's physical, emotional and spiritual health.
* Pray for their educational opportunities and future careers.

If you would like to help these children financially, there are several ways:

Sponsorship.  For only $30/month you can help provide food, clothing, medical help, housing and education for a desperate orphan.  We ask donors to commit for a year at a time.  To sign up to sponsor a child please call the church at (808) 261-1991 (Hawaiian Standard Time).

Scholarships.  We have developed a scholarship program by which donors can provide funds for orphans to be able to continue their education at a university or technical center.  This helps prepare them for careers where they can support themselves and others .   As part of getting a scholarship, the recipients agree to return 5% of their salary back to the scholarship fund at SIITA Nest after they are employed (Please contact the church for more information).

“Bless Africa" fund.  Donations to the “Bless Africa” fund are used in Uganda to pay for school lunches, teachers’ salaries, Pastor Chris's support, the medical clinic, and various building related projects.  Donations are used in Kenya for a poultry project, farming, and for upgrades and maintenance on the orphanage.

To donate to the "Bless Africa" fund, click on the Donate button which will take you to Paypal.  Or you can mail a check to Kailua Community Church, PO Box 909, Kailua, HI 96734. Please indicate that it is for "Bless Africa". All gifts are tax-deductible and go entirely to the projects in Africa

SIITA  Nest
Mother's Love Home

"SIITA Nest" orphanage was started by, and is run by Alice Kisolo,  a wonderful, energetic, Ugandan woman with a huge heart for God and disadvantaged children.   There are presently over 200 children under her care.

We have partnered with Alice and sent teams to conduct Vacation Bible School, provide seminars for the older children and staff, and of course,  provide lots of hugging, singing, and dancing.

Farm Land

"Bless Africa" has provided the funds for Alice Kisolo to purchase this farm land for Siita Nest orphanage.  The farm land not only helps to provide food for the orphans, but also provides a source of income for the orphanage as well as a place to teach the orphans how to farm.

Poultry Project
"Bless Africa" has provided the funds for Siita Nest Orphanage to purchase baby chicks to be raised and sold as fryers.  This income producing project helps provide funds for the orphanage as well as fresh meat for the children.

Bluestone Dormitory
When the opportunity arose to purchase land near the Siita Nest Orphanage, "Bless Africa" was there to help.  The existing blue structure is being used to house the overflow of orphans at Siita Nest.  Alice's dream is to build a larger dormitory facility on the same property that will allow her to accept even more  orphans at Siita Nest.  Extra rooms will be rented out to students attending the nearby
University, thus creating a source of income for the orphanage.   This project is on hold until  the funds are  donated.

Sewing Machines

"Bless Africa" provided the funds for Alice Kisolo to purchase sewing machines so young women can learn to make a living as seamstresses.

Pool Party
One of the ministries "Bless Africa" provides for the orphans is called, FUN!  Bringing the orphans to swim at a nearby pool was something none of them had ever experienced before.  What a joy to provide the emotional healing ministry of FUN for these children, many of whom have experienced atracities  beyond belief.

St. Christopher's School
St. Christopher's School is a Christian pre-school and primary school located in the village of Kapiyo, outside of the city of Kusumu, Kenya.
The school is the vision of Kenyan, Fred Outa, who donated family property for the location of both a church and a school.  "Bless Africa" raised the funds to build the beautiful new school building.  An artist from Hawaii provided the beautiful painting on the outside of the new building.

Water Tank & Well
St. Christopher's School is located in a very rural area of Kenya.  Water for cooking, drinking, bathing, and making mortar had to be hand carried from the river 2 miles away  We were horrified seeing the people drinking and cooking with brown water which had plenty of bugs visible in the water, as well as who knows what that was too small to see.   "Bless Africa" provided the funds for the drilling of a well and a "Bless Africa" team installed a water pump and a water holding tank.  The well now provides clean water for the entire village, as well as water for showers and flush toilets at the school.

Septic Tank & Bathrooms
A recent "Bless Africa" team built a septic tank system, added a bathroom with toilets and showers for St. Christopher's School.

Gospel of Life Church
Pastor Chris Nkuusi started Gospel of Life Church in an extremely poor neighborhood in Nateete, Uganda.  After the wooden  structure  fell down in a storm, "Bless Africa" partnered with Pastor Chris to build a large two story cement structure to house the church.  As the largest permanent building in the area, the church building also serves as a community center and emergency shelter.

Living
Hope School
Living Hope School is a Christian based Primary School for disadvantaged children living in a slum in Nateete, Uganda. Breakfast and lunch  are provided for all the students and are often the only food these children receive.  "Bless Africa" partnered with Pastor Chris Nkuusi to build a two story, 6-room building that is used for the school.  "Bless Africa" funds provide the teachers' salaries as well as helping to cover the costs of the feeding program.

Medical Clinic

Living Hope Medical Clinic (LHMC), the vision of Pastor Chris,  is a small clinic with laboratory, immunization, and pharmacy capabilities. The Clinic became a reality when "Bless Africa" provided both the funds and medical assistance to establish it.  The Clinic staff consists of a nurse, midwives, and physician supervised patient care.  Within the first few weeks of its opening in January of 2008, the Clinic treated hundreds of patients. This while also having the opportunity to share the salvation message to a predominantly Muslim community. Funds are needed to help the clinic become fully stocked and to help pay for operational expenses which are only partially offset by the small fees charged to the patients

Feeding Program

Each child who attends Living Hope School receives breakfast and lunch at school.  "Bless Africa" has partnered with Samaritan's Purse to provide the funds for this program.

Mosquito Net Distribution
When we learned that more than 30 children at the Living Hope School  had come down with life  threatening malaria in just one month, we asked what we could do to help.  The answer was mosquito nets.  So "Bless Africa" purchased 165 mosquito nets, one for every child at the school.  Parents with tears of joy in their eyes,  literally got down on their knees on the dirt floor to thank us!

Operation Christmas Child

The children at Living Hope School were overjoyed to receive shoe boxes full of toys, toiletries and school supplies from Samaritan Purse's Operation Christmas Child program.

Murals
Two beautiful murals for "Bless Africa".  One mural was installed by the "Bless Africa" team at St.Christopher's Church in Kapiyo, Kenya.  The other was installed in the dining hall at Siita  Nest Orphanage.    The murals not only add vibrant colors to otherwise plain surroundings, but also illustrate God's love for His Children and His Creation.
