God birthed Kailua Community Church in 1975, when a small group of courageous and Spirit-led Christians from a C&MA church in the Philippines began meeting in a home here in Kailua, Hawaii. That same year, Pastor Doug Grogan was called as the first pastor for this growing group. The growing church began meeting at Keolu Elementary School and then moved to the Kailua Seventh-Day Adventist Church eighteen months later.
Land was purchased on Oneawa Street and a donated building was moved on to the site. This building became the new sanctuary, while a tiny house left on the property was used for offices and Sunday school classes.
On May 23, 1982, groundbreaking ceremonies marked the start of our existing sanctuary. In February of 1988 after much hard work and sacrifice, our present day sanctuary was dedicated and the first service in the new sanctuary was held.
Pastor Doug Grogan left in 1984 to serve the Lord in Utah, and Pastor Keith Newsome was called on February 1, 1985, to be the church’s next pastor.
On August 8, 1999, Pastor Keith Newsome left to follow God’s calling to a church in Palm Springs, and Pastor Perry Alexander immediately began serving as interim pastor. On February 8, 2000, Pastor Perry’s status changed from interim to permanent lead pastor
